Parque Tejo VI – Primitive

‘The very same logic was at work in the Cubists’ fascination with ‘primitive’ art: ‘African and Oceanian artists were regarded as completely ignorant of any aesthetic conception. It was thought that they made beautiful things without knowing it, for the benefit of both professional and amateur artists, who could discern their aesthetic qualities and reuse them in their works.’
